Medieval Health and History

Besides reconstructing individual lives, the After the Plague project aimed to answer several academic questions about health in medieval England. Some results for specific methods are given on the pages describing those methods. But the major results integrate findings from a range of methods. These include:

• Medieval Cambridge: the social healthscape: did different kinds of people have different health experiences?

• The greatest health problem of the Middle Ages?

• The Black Death and medieval health change: did people’s health change through medieval times, and was the Black Death epidemic responsible?

• Medieval health in context: the long-term picture: how did medieval health compare to earlier and later times?
